All of these things require time and creativity, not money. However, they are so helpful in freeing your mind, and making you forget about your week or the bad day you had at your job. Constantly working can end up with you feeling burnt out, if you catch yourself feeling awfully stressed at the simplest task or don’t have the energy to carry on for another day, know that it’s time to take a break. Staycations, or giving yourself a break, can also improve your overall health, productivity and creativity.

Here are a few ideas for staycation.

1- Try a different exercise class

If you go to a gym for exercising, then give yourself a change of scenery and surrounding. Go and signup for a class that you haven’t tried before. This will give you the opportunity to try something new, and also give you a chance to meet new people, and who knows? Maybe this change will inspire you to come to the gym more often, if you’re irregular.

If you workout from home, then worry not, change your workout routine and give yourself the chance to experience something new. Get your body moving by trying out a different routine at the gym or trying a new dance/zumba.

2- Explore your home town

This is by far our favorite, sometimes, in the rush of things, we forget to cherish everything that we have around us. Which is why, one of the best things you can do is take a day off, get in your car and explore your hometown.

You can go visit that café you’ve always wanted to but couldn’t, or maybe take a visit to the park you went to as a kid. You can even go to your old high-school or the movies, where you’ve made so many memories. This will help you get in touch with your history and roots. You can also hit up the local museum and take a stroll through the past.

3- Cook with your friends

Cooking is extremely therapeutic, and it is also a good way for you to connect with people. You could host a cooking night, but not alone! Call your friends over, or the neighbor that’s recently moved to town. This will help you get in touch with people, and it is also refreshing to surround yourself with loved ones.

It is also an amazing opportunity to get to know new people, and improve your bond with previous ones. If you’re feeling creative, pick a cuisine or culture. This will help you make a memorable experience with your friends, and it will also be a day that you can look back at and cherish.

4- Spa day

If you have been thinking of going to the spa for some time now but haven’t been able to, then set a day aside for yourself. Turn your phone off, take a break from everything and everyone and go visit your local spa, and treat yourself to a relaxing day.

If you aren’t in the mood for that, then call someone over (or do it by yourself) and have a spa day at home, the internet is filled with DIYs and home-made masks that you can make to treat yourself. So, lay down, put cucumbers on your eyes and just forget about everything else for some time.

5- Get a tent

If for some reason you can’t go out in the wilderness, why not enjoy the nature of your own backyard? It’s only going to be boring if you let it. Get your camping gear out, set up your tent and prepare for a quiet, peaceful night. You can call family over, and tell each other horror stories.

You can also set up candles, and lights in your tent to give it a more surreal feel. Lay down under the stars, and look up, remind yourself that bad days are okay. Take a deep breath, and take the pressure off you.

6- Do yoga

Yoga is extremely beneficial for your physical and mental health. All you need to do is infuse ice water with citrus with cucumber slices, making a refreshing detox. Then, roll out your yoga mat and turn on some online tutorials.

If you are new to yoga, then slick to the basics and simple poses. You can also meditate, another great way to unpack the baggage of your everyday life.

7- Take art class

Get your creative muscles in action by taking art classes. Check in with your local community center to see if they have offerings. This is an amazing way to bond with your community, and get in touch with the people around you. And who knows? Maybe you will develop a new hobby.

Exploring a new form of art, learning how to do it and investing yourself fully into it is very therapeutic. You can also take a class to learn that instrument you’ve always wanted. Always good to learn new things.

8- Go to a market

Even if you’re on staycation, you’ve got to eat. Rather than going to your local grocery store, why not visit a farmer’s market? The vibe is completely different in the market. It is also a good experience if you haven’t been there before.

You can also discover a new vegetable, and learn how to cook it, try out a new dish. So, what’s the wait? Cook a new dish, and send it over to your friends, let them be the judge.

9- Watch your team play

If you are a sports fan, then this will be your favorite idea. You can go to the local sports bar, and watch your team play. Or, you can call over friends and family, and call it a game night. Get some popcorns, and watch your team play.

The bond you share with people that support the same team as you is a close one. It is a wonderful way to make friends. There’s not a feeling better than seeing your favorite team win. So, why experience the joy alone? Seeing sports with your friends and family makes it ten times more fun and entertaining.

10- Volunteer

It is always good to give back to the community. Volunteer work is great, it helps others and it also feels very rewarding. You can sign up at a soup kitchen, library, homeless shelter or other community program, if you aren’t keen on that idea.

Then, help those around you. Buy flowers for the old couple that lives down the street, offer to walk your friend’s dog or help your neighbor’s kid with his/her homework. Indulging with others and helping them is very calming and fulfilling.

11- Step outside

It is always good to step out of your surroundings. Pick up your hiking boots, and go out for a stroll. You can also drive around in a new neighborhood and discover new streets

12- Exchange houses for a night

This is an interesting idea, and we wonder why people don’t try it. If you want to get away from your house but also don’t want to pay the hefty fee of a hotel room, then exchange your house with your friend for a night.

It will give you a change of perspective of how the other people lives, and also a change of environment.
