However, when you are mindful of a few tiny things, life becomes easy and the existence of each other become tolerable, rather pleasant. Here are some fantastic tips for initiating a co-living bond with a room mate.
1. Don’t lock your roommate out
When you lock the room, make sure your roommate knows it and has the duplicate key of the lock.
2. Shared shelf or table for communal objects
Specify a place like a small table or wall shelf for placing shared things. Carefully placed items in one place will make the life of both of you more comfortable.
3. Take permission before using any belonging of your roommate
When your roommate is absent, and their bed or anything else is free, do not just use it for you or your guests without their permission.
4. Do not share complaints and shocking news immediately
When your roommate enters the room from outside, do not tell them shocking news or complain about something. Let them rest for at least 10 minutes and discuss anything you want.
5. When you need the room for yourself
You may need the room for yourself sometime. Tell your roommate when and for how long you need to be left alone, and if they agree, do not keep demanding the same again and again.
6. Put your valuables in their places.
When you leave the room, put your valuable devices or ornaments in their place. For example, the couch is not for your laptop or the ring.
7. Know the emergency conditions of your roommate
What makes your roommate sick or sends them into a fit of sneezing, you should know if they have any allergies or medical condition. Also, save a couple of relatives’ contact numbers on your phone so that you can call them in an emergency.
8. Have a side table lamp
When working or reading, turn on your bedside lamp and turn off the room light. This is the best way to be mindful of the night’s rest of your roommate.
9. Dedicate 2 minutes to organize the room
Do not leave the room in a mess, even if you hurry. You can spare 2 minutes to tidy the room before you go.
10. Crinkle a bag of chips to awake your roommate
When your roommate is snoring loud, crinkle a candy wrapper or a bag of potato chips. This will wake them without any rude gesture.
All the best with your co-living journey!
